HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Volunteer Opportunities

Sometimes an older LGBT individual just needs a little help or companionship. By signing up as a volunteer with Aging as Ourselves, you can make a difference in the life of those who were pioneers in our community. Select from several opportunities to work one on one with an LGBT senior or pitch in as an outreach or office volunteer.

  • Friendly Visiting - Make weekly or bi-monthly home visits to a LGBT Seniors’ home to provide companionship, increase socialization and reduce isolation. Activities may include reading, playing cards, board games or puzzles, creating memory scrapbooks, talking about their interests and life experiences, or simply bring comfort to someone living alone.
  • Grocery Shopping - Provide weekly or bi-monthly grocery shopping for frail, homebound seniors. Shop for the senior, or take them with you!
  • Bill Minding - Provide bi-monthly or occasional budgeting assistance to homebound seniors under the supervision of the Care Manager.
  • Office Volunteer - Provides office and clerical assistance to Aging As Ourselves staff and programs
  • Outreach Volunteer - Represent Aging As Ourselves at fairs and community events. Volunteers will go out and educate the community about what Aging As Ourselves does.

Connect To The 50 And Over LGBT Community

Its more than just being gay friendly. Being culturally sensitive to the needs of LGBT 50 and over individuals means understanding their values and concerns. Health and social service professionals can demonstrate their commitment to quality service for the LGBT community by taking our cultural competency training and receive CEU’s. TRAINING WILL BE AVAILIBLE IN SPRING 2008
